Ash in Anchorage

What a sight, huh?

Saturday I went to a "mini women's retreat" out in Wasilla (an hour North of Anchorage). About half-way through, everyone noticed out the huge windows in the conference room we were in, the bright blue sky against the mountains suddenly go dark gray. Many of the women started getting calls on their cell phones from their husbands, "Redoubt went off again and ash is falling in Anchorage ... come home". So they ended early and sent us all back to Anchorage . As I was driving into town, this is what i saw:

... An enormous cloud coming from the direction of the volcano, carrying ash to kindly sprinkle all over our city. Lovely. It's erupted over 20 times now (in one week), but this was the first time the wind blew ash to Anchorage.

And here are some pictures from the rest of the day (these are pics I got off of our local news website):

Gross, no? Thankfully, we woke up Monday morning to about 6 new inches of snow, so even though there is still ash everywhere, we won't see it again until 'breakup' (our term for Spring... when the snow starts to melt). So at least it LOOKS pretty again outside.

Edit: Please be praying for our friends, the Yager's. Sandor is a life-long friend of Charley's and his wife (a friend of mine) is going through a very difficult situation right now in regards to a recent miscarriage she had. You can read about it HERE. Please lift them up if you think of them. Thanks.

Weird but that first picture is actually kind of pretty. The rest of them are really creepy odd. Like, stay in the house till it's all over kind of odd. =/

Or maybe it's not ash. Maybe it's sand? Maybe you've moved to the beach in California and don't know it??!! =P

Wow...I see those pictures and think you should title them "Second hand smoke". ;)
I'm so glad you are safe. And I'm so excited to know you are feeling little Eden more and more each day.
Most people think I'm crazy, but I hope I get to feel that feeling again at least one more time...I mean, a few months from now...not today or next week.
Daniel called me this morning and oh how I love that man. I am so undeserving of his love and patience and he so gently encouraged my "whiny, discouraged, upset" self and helped me see things how God does. Just hearing his voice still makes my heart skip a beat like it did when we were courting.
Anyways, since this comment isn't long enough yet, I will tell you that I can't wait till we go to Alaska because we do want to visit there someday.
Tell Jen I said hi next time you talk. I even want to visit Tennesee now...just to meet her.
love and prayers,
Jaynee

I will be praying for your friends. So sad.

It's really kind of strange to think of a volcano in Alaska...I lean more towards Hawaii when I think of them.

Yuck! But the first picture is quite beautiful!
That's so sad about your friend. I went over and commented on her blog.

Hmmm ... not real attractive. That last picture reminds me of Vermont. We had a loooong, steeeeep driveway which required regular sanding or ash-ing during the winter. As you toss out shovelful after shovelful of sand, the snowy sides of the driveway end up looking like that. Ick. So much for a winter wonderland.
